Elizabeth Diller

Architect and co-founder of the practice Diller Scofidio + Renfro

Photography: Geordie Wood.

Elizabeth Diller is a Professor of Architectural Design at Princeton University and the Co-Founding Partner of Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), a New York-based design studio whose practice spans architecture, installation art, multi-media performance, and print. With a focus on cultural and civic projects, DS+R’s work addresses the evolving role of institutions and the future of cities. In Spain, Liz is leading the redevelopment of Nuevo Azca, a civically-minded green transformation of Madrid’s financial district from a passing place into an ecosystem of habitation. Alongside urban-scale and institutional projects such as the High Line and Lincoln Center in New York, she recently completed the Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women in Doha, the first purpose-built women’s mosque, the V&A East Storehouse in London, a new kind of museum that exhibits working collections to the public through visible storage and conservation spaces, and the adaptive reuse of the historic MIT Metropolitan Warehouse in Cambridge.

Alongside her late partner Ricardo Scofidio, Liz was the first architect to receive the prestigious MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant.” DS+R received the 2025 Venice Biennale’s Golden Lion for Canal Cafe, a laboratory-café that drew water from the Arsenale Lagoon to produce espresso.
